In 2021, Debra was longlisted in the Just Write For Kids Australia Pitch It! competition. In 2022, Debra released her junior fiction book, Ah-Fur, Super Sleuth: The Case of the Missing Moggies. In 2023, she was shortlisted in the Just Write For Kids Pitch It! competition and both long and shortlisted in 2024 in the same competition. In October 2025, Debra received a Highly Commended award for a quirky adult short story

Along with writing, she enjoys painting (the artistic type), craft and sewing. Debra’s relief in becoming too serious is in creating custom-made puppets, particularly for other authors. She often warns people to be careful or they could end up as a puppet character!
